Got to see Coco Montoya (one of my favorite blues musicians) perform at Callahan's last night. That fact that he would perform at a smaller venues speaks volumes of the location and their staff. Like others have mentioned, its a small venue. I recommend getting there as early as possible. While there isn't necessarily a "bad seat in the house", the seating is set up so you may have to contort your body in a certain position to get a good view.... They have an ok drink selection and a minimal food selection, but like others have mentioned, it's a music hall! Come for some great music and have a great time. I will be sure to come back, again!

The music is great. There is no other venue like this in Detroit where you can see national blues acts. However, if they don't get a "Bar Rescue" and get someone in there that knows how to run a bar business, I fear that they will be out of business soon as they are losing ~2/3 of potential revenue each night. Please get it together and consult with someone that knows the bar business.

Saw two shows here recently. Come for the small venue and blues niche. Usually not a drunk crowd getting blitzed. Everyone is there for the music.

This is a great place to see a show in a smaller and more intimate setting. They have great acts on a regular basis - check out their schedule. There really isn't a bad seat in the house. The service is great and the food is decent and fairly priced.

The turkey sandwich was juicy and huge. 10 out of 10 would get it again. They just need a bigger dance floor.

I'm glad the reviews here are much more in line for a bar/ music club. Reviews I've read elsewhere focused on the food or service rather than the sound, stage, sight lines and other features of importance to a music venue that's only open when a show is scheduled. Does one complain about the cuisine at a sports stadium? In brief the sound here is far better than most such clubs. Several bands have recorded live shows here for later release. There are no bad seats...the place is small and intimate. Stage is a good size and bands never appear cramped. Service is usually adequate but can be overwhelmed if a show is well attended by hungry and thirsty patrons :)

This is a great place, maybe the perfect place, to see a band. The sound quality is superb, and every seat is a good seat. The crowd is always very polite, which I can't say about any other venue. Too bad the food is sub-par, but it's about the music. If the food was even halfway decent, this would easily be a 5 - star review.

Some great music acts in a small intimate venue. I can't say much about the food, as I've never eaten there the times I've been there, and the beer selection is limited, at least on draft. But I go there for the music, and that's great.

Cool place to see a show. Sound is good. Service was very good and the manger was very attentive and went out if his way for myself and others. Food was not spectacular but good.

Callahan's is a great place to see local and national blues acts (and a smattering of non-blues artists). The staff is generally friendly, and you can sometimes get discounted or free tickets through the club's web site or Facebook page. I've seen many shows there, most of them great. As for the food? I've learned to eat elsewhere before I go to a show at Cally's. This place is a music venue/bar first; food isn't a top priority here. If the kitchen were better, I might say it was worth seven stars.

Dropped in at Callahan's on a Saturday night in January. Freezing out, light snow, and by 7pm I literally took the last parking place. Inside, a packed house. I sat at the bar, had a great burger and enjoyed a very talented opening blues act, giving me time to enjoy my meal. I also had time to marvel how good a place this is for live music. The crowd had a very cool vibe, friendly, social. The intimate but professional stage was easily seen from just about everywhere, and the sound was perfect, not too loud but with the right amount of punch. I did notice an attentive sound guy working a large, complex board along the side, and it paid off. By the time the headliners came on, I was hooked. Great blues, great food, great crowd. Highly recommended. Get on their email list or fan their Facebook page to be alerted to the performer schedule.

The best place to go for blues around. So many good national acts come through sometimes it's hard to decide what one to see next. The only two criticisms that I have are that the parking lot is too small and fills up quickly which means parking up the road and walking from an unlit parking lot. I have also had to wait for over an hour for food on more that one occassion on busy show nights. All in all, it's a great music venue and I highly recommend it to anyone who loves blues music.

Worst place I ever been. 2 hour wait for food which wasn't worth it. In the winter they put the heat on and in the summer u sweat your butt off cuz they are too cheap to run the A/C. I can go to the Blue Goose to see Jim from the Rockets for $5 instead of $25.

Great! Decent food, fantastic service, decent prices, well lit N clean parking lot, out of this world music.
